khealywu said: Hello, I am an adult and I like books. Would you please recommend some books for me? I like a lot YA stuff--the Graceling series, Robin McKinley, etc. Lots of butt-kicking women being awesome. I also adore Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Garth Nix and Neil Gaiman. What else should I try? I heard good things about Seraphina but haven't gotten it yet. Thank you!
Ok! First, you should read Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner. The audiobook is only available through Audible but is one of the best done audiobooks I’ve listened to lately - if you’re in the mood for an audiobook. It’s just wonderful.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a Cinderella story where Cinderella is a cyborg and the moon people invade. Seriously fun. It does have a bit of trilogy syndrome (CLIFFHANGER!) but it’s really really good so I forgive it.
The Princess and the Goblin by Macdonald was one of my first loves. The best part is that it’s from 1895 so free copies are everywhere so you can download it and read it right away!
When Diana Wynne Jones died recently I started reading everything she’s ever written and then I felt really sad because she’s dead and I was done. Her Chronicles of Crestomanci are my new favorites. Love.
If you’re in the mood for short stories, Magic for Beginners by Kelley Link is lovely and haunting.
Oh! And if you are as much a sucker for fairy tale tropes as I am, you might adore Enchanted by Alethea Kontis which takes all of those tropes and turns them into one wonderful family.
