I got a bunch of turnips from my CSA so i’m going to make this tonight (with turnips, and carrots - and maybe parsnips and kohlrabi?) for this week’s lunches. Doesn’t it look SO EFFING GOOD?

Everyone’s like “those Germans have a word for everything” but English has a word for tricking someone into watching the music video for Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.

English has a lot more words created for very specific phenomena! It’s not just rick-rolling. Language is always evolving and it’s super interesting! Here’s a list of hyper-specific/untranslatable words in English.

This list is actually really surprising, I can’t believe no other language has a word for some of these things!

In my department we make storytime baskets. We set a theme for the week, and one person pulls a bunch of books, flannels, songs, etc. on that theme and everyone pulls from there for storytimes. Makes storytime planning fast and easy for everyone but the basket maker.

Kaylee was in the other week when we had a dog theme and she told me my next basket had to be cats. I aim to please, but there are so many cat books I decided to limit myself just to books from the last 2 years. There were still almost 100! After weeding them down to just the club bangers, here is the bones of my storytime basket - fun books about cats for your storytime pleasure.
